(LATEST) Haas won’t Disclose 2023 F1 Driver Lineup Quickly

Guenther Steiner, the head of the Haas team, gave an update on the issue of the team’s driver lineup for the 2023 Formula 1 season, saying it would take time to make a choice.

Mick Schumacher’s involvement in the sport is still uncertain, as he is rumored to be leaving the US-owned team at the conclusion of the current season.

Alongside Nikita Mazepin, who was fired from the group before the 2022 season began, Schumacher joined the group last year.

Schumacher’s future in Formula One is in doubt because Haas has been linked to various drivers for the next season.

Since Kevin Magnussen has a multi-year contract, according to Steiner, Haas is not in a hurry to reveal who will be his teammate after the 2022 season.

“It’s not that we didn’t speak together about drivers or what to do but we decided to wait a bit – we are not in a hurry, we monitor the situation with Mick and see what is happening,” he stated.

We’re not in a rush, so why do we need to make a decision right now?

“Why would we force ourselves to decide simply because you want an answer? What if we decide now and regret it?

There are numerous factors to consider, but the goal is undoubtedly to move the squad forward once more. “I suppose what we are looking for is to bring the team forward,” said the speaker.

Haas is presently seventh in the standings, and Magnussen’s fifth-place finish in the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix was its best performance of the year.

In comparison to the 2021 season, when it spent the majority of the season competing at the back of the field, it has displayed better form.

Steiner asserted that because of the team’s improved standing in the standings, there is now a lot more interest in it.

In 2020, when we let Romain (Grosjean) and Kevin go, I was the first to warn them guys you don’t want to be here because it is a bad year, so undoubtedly, the cockpit is more fascinating this year.

“Now that the car is better and we are improving, we are a much more exciting opportunity for a driver to demonstrate his abilities, and last year, knowing it was a transitional year, it was a fantastic opportunity to learn about Formula 1.

Although we still have a ways to go, our situation is better than it was the previous year.
